Hi. @Vako encouraged me to write some tips for beginner freelancers. So I want to share with you things that helped me to be completely booked out. I hope that my experience will help you as well.

  1. Don't be afraid to take a project. Even if you are not confident in yourself (beginner freelances often struggle with this problem). First take project and then figure out how to do it. Hardcore learning in real life situation is the most beneficial. My first client requested me to do website with a lot of animation and 3d and gave a lot of examples from awwwards. I haven’t had even a clue how to do that before I took the work. But I figured it out.

  2. It’s okay to work for a low rate for the start. Until you got one killer review from your satisfied client. And later you should never undervalue yourself.

  3. Just Webflow is not enough. You have to stand out from the crowd. Find your little superpower. My little gig with simple 3d animations helped me to land first couple website clients. And it still works well for selling websites. You can choose anything you like related to websites. Whether it’s copy, graphic design, illustration or maybe excellent UX design.

  4. You need to know design well. Webflow is just another tool for development. But most of the time the greatest value you are giving to your clients is the way you think and solve their problems. Learn to ask right questions, analyse their businesses and needs. And give them the right solution for their problems. Know the process. It’s the most complex thing in web design business and the most crucial.

  5. Make your flagship project. If you don’t have clients yet make a concept project the highest quality you can, so any client cannot resist working with you. Try not to approach them with course project or some generic stuff. If you position yourself like an expert that caters custom solutions - show it.

  6. Try to learn something new on every project you take. Ideally every next project you take should be more complex than previous. It will skyrocket your skill. Don’t afraid challenges.

  7. Don’t give up if it does’t turned out as quickly as you expected. Some new freelancers give up too fast. Be patient and persistent, build your skill and enjoy your work and the best yet to come.
